Mumbai is home to some of the tallest buildings and largest slums in India, with prosperity and poverty woven throughout its urban fabric.
Mumbai’s unfin-ishedness is an unusual one; it is a city which is not incomplete but ever-transforming, not abandoned but contested. To examine some aspects of unfinished ur-banism in Mumbai, we look at three distinct examples that reveal the simultaneity of urban processes in the city and their combined outcome on the built environ-ment.
