What happens when art is released from the confines of the gallery space and displayed out of doors, at one with Nature?
Does it cease to exist within the realms of ‘popular culture’ (to be disseminated via mass media), or does it ultimately transcend social, geographical, and economic barriers to be shared and celebrated by all? Japanese artist Mariko Mori’s work attempts to answer just that. With a diverse body of art spanning performance, photography, videography, sculpture, and large-scale installations, Mori’s practice combines ideas and imagery from pop culture, new technology, universal philosophy, and prehistoric traditions.
