In fits and starts, throughout history, public monuments have been overturned, beheaded, and flung into rivers as an act of protest against the events and ideals they represent.

The most recent surge feeds into that general tendency, awakening awareness of its cause while creating its own form of destruction. The question is: what should ideally be done with these provocative pieces of art and what could best take their place? Potential answers can be found in the works of Sebastian Errazuriz, Charo Oquet, Michael Ray Charles, and Andreas Trenker, as well as in the Atlas of Lost Finds, all of which are touched upon here.
